step by step to crack "some/many?" BigFish games
unzip it to a convenient place
install the game (do this offline, or deny internet access for the temp.exe that wants to download)
when it finishes, uncheck the "Run game" box
click finish
open the installed game folder
open the folder you unzipped the loader to
copy the loader and paste it into the installed game folder
right click on the loader and make a shortcut on your desktop (choose Sent to > desktop)
back in the game folder, right click on the executable (name of game.exe)
choose rename
hover your mouse cursor over the highlighted text
right click and choose copy
back on your desktop, right click on the loader short cut
choose properties
on the shortcut tab, look at the "target" window. the highlighted should read: "C:\Program Files\Name of Game\loader.exe"
press the space bar, once
right click and choose paste
the "target" window should now show: "C:\Program Files\Name of Game\loader.exe" Name of Game.exe
click the OK button
you may want to rename the loader.exe to "name of game" Loader.exe, so you don't overwrite future ones, and delete the game shortcut, from your desktop, so you don't accidentally try starting the game with that, instead of the loader
try starting the game
if it doesn't work, you can try adding a delay value to the "Target"
on your desktop, right click on the loader shortcut
choose properties
the highlighted should read: "C:\Program Files\Name of Game\loader.exe" Name of Game.exe
at the end of this text, press the space bar once
type in a delay value...start with 200
click the OK button and try starting the game, again.
if it still doesn't work, try changing the delay value, incrementally. 250, 275, 300...until you find the game will start. i actually only needed to use 200 & 300, on a few i tried.
on some of the games, nothing will work (on those that failed, i got an error message: "Section not found")
here's the list of games i used this on; those that worked, and those that didn't.
worked:
Triblettes
Book Bind
Pop-A-Holic
Nano Pipeline (with 200 at the end)
Vegans Veganians (with 300 at the end)
Maze Mania (with 300 at the end)
failed:
Totem Treasure executable is incorrectly named PokieMagic.exe (tried renaming the .exe, and used several delay values; nothing worked)
Virus (Error: section not found; no delay values worked)
Chip$ (Error: section not found; no delay values worked)
it's possible these may have needed access to d/l the temp.exe, but i wasn't willing to chance it, as this was probably (in my opinion) going to result in installing the TryMedia garbage. i deleted the shortcuts from my desktop, deleted the loader.exe from the installed game folder and uninstalled the games. these will have to wait for a serial or crack.
final notes:
you'll end up with a BFG folder, in Program Files...just delete. it's
the BigFish icon and html file.
to make things more aesthetically pleasing, you can make an icon from the game executable, and change the loader's icon.
i take no credit for this. the zip file, for the loader, contains the original author's info; all i did was make a step by step tutorial. i left some "exact" steps out...like exactly how to copy/paste...so, feel free to ask for more clarification, if you need it.
