This document covers the software required to perform 2 tasks:
1) copying an original dvd by shrinking (compressing) it to
fit under the 4.7 Gig format, then authoring and burning that
set of VOB and info files.
Use DVDshrink (freeware) to shrink and author (am told DVD2one
works well also so inculded), and then reauthor program (get
rid of some extra files if required to fit)
Use Nero 6 to burn in DVDfile format. Make sure you transfer
reauthored VOB files to proper video folder.
Burn away!
2) converting analog files (old vhs or beta movies, etc)
The first thing that is required is to digitize the original
tape, and save in an AVI format. For this I used a TVMPEG
capture unit that has RCA and SVideo input jacks, with a USB
port to interface with the PC.
I used MPegTV Sation USBTV, the associated software with the
hardware device.
Once you have an AVI file, it needs to be converted (compressed)
to a MPEG file (approx a 5 to 1 ratio)
For this I used TMPGEnc Plus.
To finish, I used TMPGenc DVD Author to setup DVD headers, set
up the directory of the DVD. This is saved in a series of VOB
and info files to be burned.
Use Nero 6 DVDfile to complete.
