A quick guide to the file types for Memory Map (http://www.memory-map.co.uk/)
=============================================================================
*.qct - These contain the actual graphics that are shown on screen, typically
the map, but the could also be aerial photographs, map legends etc.
*.qed - These contain the elevation data. once you have the elevation data for
an area you can view the map in 3D and see route profiles.
*.mmi - place name index file. This is a database that will help you locate places
on the map.
Map and Elevation Setup
=======================
Download the latest version of Memory Map from the website and install it. Run it
and choose Register Licence from the Help menu. Register your copy (there is a
keygen available on Overnet).
Create a folder somewhere to put your maps on. This can be on a different drive or
even on a CD if you like. Move all your map files there (e.g. all *.qct,*.qed and
*.mmi files).
Ensure that the names of the *.qed files match the names of the *.qct files (e.g.
if you have a map called "Landranger_Area10.qct" then make sure the corresponding
qed file is in the same folder and called "Landranger_Area10.qed"
Choose "Map List.." from the "Map" menu and choose "Refresh Map List". Ensure the
folder you put all your files in is listed, if not then add it. Now press "Okay"
and all your maps should be listed.
Place Name Database
===================
Under the "Search" menu choose "Load Database" and then "MMI file".
Navigate to the location of your MMI file and select it.
You can now search for place names using the "Find Place" option.
